The Building Control team is responsible for providing a number of different services to a wide range of people across the district, and country.
Our principle role is to ensure that people who build certain types of buildings meet the requirements of the Building Regulations. The regulations also apply to extensions and alterations.
People are often confused by this requirement and think that making a Planning application is all that they need to do. That, in many cases, is not the case and you may need to seek both Planning and Building Regulation approval.
When you ask us to approve your project under the Building Regulations we may need to approve your plans and in all cases, will need to carry out site inspections.
The team is also responsible for:
- Building Regulation enforcement
- Building Regulation advice (including pre-application advice)
- Initial Notices determination (and entering on the public register)
- Initial Notice Reversions
- Registering Competent Person Notifications
- Dangerous Structures Investigation
- Registering Demolition Notices.
