The Family Monster Walk has been postponed until further notice.
We are sorry to say that this event has been postponed due to COVID-19. We are committed to delivering this event for you, so we will let you know a new date for monster fun as soon as possible.
*Please note, if you originally signed up for the April event your booking has been automatically transferred to the new date that will be released. If you are not able to attend the new date, please let the team know as we would love to have this event open to as many people as possible.
What is the Monster Family Walk and what should we expect?
This new event for 2020 aims to get more families active together outdoors in Coalville.
The day will see the monsters, which were first created by local schools as part of last year's National Forest Timber festival, out and about in Coalville Forest Adventure Park for families to find as part of a monster hunt.
There will also be a monster's village where local providers including our Health and Wellbeing Team, Leicestershire County Council's Active Travel team, Everyone Active plus more who will be providing more information on how you can get active outdoors for free or indoors for low cost along with some other giveaways.
As well as all of this if your kids (3 to 12 year olds only) can complete the monster hunt finding all 10 monsters that will be hiding, they will be entered into our monster prize draw and stand a chance of winning one of our great prizes.
Each child finishing (3 to 12 year olds only) the monster hunt will also be given a free goody bag (*goody bags will include a mix and match of goodies for different ages and will be given on a first come first serve basis, but there will be enough for every young person that is signed up before the event).
On the day please also get involved with our Facebook and Twitter pages by posting pictures and comments of your group having Monster amounts of fun! Tag us in using F: @nwlhealthteam T: @nwlhealth.
When and where is it?
Please could those attending the Family Monster Walk try walking to get to us. Give active travel a go to help out the environment, and as we only have limited parking available!
The Family Monster Walk will be held on *new date coming soon
Families can arrive any time within this period to complete and enjoy their monster hunt.
When you arrive just visit the control tent first, which will be located in the monster village, to collect your guide and then when you finish return your completed guide and prize draw slip to the same control tent to collect your children's (only for under 12 years) free goody bag and to be entered into the prize draw.
The event will be held at Coalville Forest Adventure park (Urban Forest Park Linden Way, Coalville, LE67 3JY) which is only 5-10 minutes on foot from the town centre off of Linden Way. The Forest Adventure Park has lots of pathed routes you can explore with loads of lovely wildlife to see and there is plenty of parking and an accessible toilet will be available during the event.
How do we sign-up? What should we wear?
Great news that you would like to join us - *our sign up form will be back soon
*Please note: If you live outside of North West Leicestershire but would like to join us please email the organisers first through Emily Rodbourne at emily.rodbourne@nwleicestershire.gov.uk
If you have any questions or problems please talk to us by contacting the team via emily.rodbourne@nwleicestershire.gov.uk or call us on 01530 454755.
Please could as many people as possible walk to this event instead of driving.
The Monsters will be hiding all over the Coalville Forest adventure park so you and your family can take whatever route you like. Most of the paths that you will use around the site are well surfaced, with only small portions being slightly marshier (depending on the weather) underfoot. We advise that you wear footwear that is comfortable and has good grip, but we do not think you will require wellie boots, unless you prefer. As the event is in April, depending on the weather, you may need to wrap up warm and consider your footwear.
Do we have to sign-up?
We are asking people to sign-up to this event so that we can try to plan ahead to make sure that it is the best that it can be for everyone!
The team want your family to have the best and safest experience as possible and for this reason we will try to monitor how many people are on the site at any one time. We want you to have room to enjoy your experience and so that we can make sure we have enough staff, parking, goody bags and other resources available for everyone.
Although the team will not be restricting access to the site on the day of the event, and we will have more of everything than we need, we cannot guarantee that if you turn up on the day and want to be involved that we will be apply to supply you with all of the required resources to really enjoy yourselves.
Volunteering opportunity
We are looking for 4+ volunteers to help with this event. Your support would help us in marshalling the site and parking security. Volunteers would be required from 9.45am until 1.45pm and we will provide all the required information and resources. The volunteers will also be provided with lunch. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in supporting this event please contact Emily Rodbourne: emily.rodbourne@nwleicestershire.gov.uk
Parking map
*this information will be provided closer to the event so watch out here.
How much does it cost?
Our Family Monster walk is FREE...and you get lots of freebies whilst you are there!
Who can take part and how long is it?
This event is for everyone and we encourage all ages and abilities to come along and join in. The kids could come on their scooters, or bring them in the push chair. The site is also accessible for wheelchair users, so please bring your whole family.
Our Monster hunt will vary in length depending on the route you choose to take together, but we think you might walk approximately 1 mile in order to find all of the monsters. We expect that it will take you and your family between 30-45 minutes to complete, but this all depends. There is no rush though and as you go around take your time to see what the monsters are up to and explore the site so you can visit again next time.
How do you get there?
The event will be held at Coalville Forest Adventure park (Urban Forest Park Linden Way, Coalville, LE67 3JY) which is only 5-10 minutes on foot from the town centre off of Linden Way.
Will there be parking and toilets available?
We have secured three parking venues for this event. Please check back here to find our parking map a bit closer to the event (*parking map coming soon), but if you can get to us on foot please do as we are limited on parking.
There will be 2 toilets available on the day, 1 will be accessible.
Who has worked together to give you the Monster Walk?
This Monster Walk has been brought to you by the Health and Wellbeing Team at North West Leicestershire District council.
To make this event possible a lot of other partners have also worked together including the National Forest, North West Leicestershire Community Focus and Cultural Services teams, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, North West Leicestershire School Sport Partnership and Everyone Active.
The health and wellbeing team would also like to give their thanks for the kind donations that have been provided by the Safer North West Leicestershire Partnership towards the goody bags.
We would also like to thank local services and community groups that have supported the event including The Friends of Coalville Park.
Why is there a Monster Walk this year?
We have introduced the Family Monster Walk this year as we would like to encourage more of our communities to, especially those that are not at the minute, take advantage of the great outdoor spaces and National Forest areas around Coalville to help them stay active and healthy.
We would also really like to encourage our young people to start creating active habits now.
We have all heard about the benefits of being physically active, with it found to lower your chances of suffering from long term conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes, along with a lower risk of suffering from depression and dementia, as well as increased confidence and mood plus much more, but do you know how you and your family can be?
Sometimes you might think that staying active can be expensive, especially for the whole family, but if you know how and where you could stay active outdoors for free its more achievable.
So this event will give you some ideas and information, plus showing you a new site you may not have visited before, on where you could go for a walk, run, cycle or even workout.
We also hope that this event may become part of a wider network of events, so help us to make it successful by signing up!
We have some other questions, who can we ask?
If you have any questions please contact Emily: emily.rodbourne@nwleicestershire.gov.uk or 01530 454755
